The tar processing company Rütgers in Zelzate (Belgium) is going to increase its production of phthalic anhydride by fifty percent in 2014.

This means 14,000 tons per year extra phthalic anhydride. Phthalic anhydride is used in the preparation of plastics, fiberglass and automotive paints. It is extracted from naphthalene which in turn comes from coal tar.

Because of the rapid expansion Rütgers needed to upgrade their existing demi water installation to handle higher production needs.
